Members of the UVCA board met to discuss the possibilities of making the volleyball state tournament a true double elimination. With the current set up of having all three 1A-3A classifications at UVU on the same weekend there is not a possible solution for a true double. However there has been talk about moving one of the classification (1A-3A) to the Richfield facility (every 3rd year a different classification would play there) which would allow us to set up a true double elimination tournament for all classification. As a board we want to get an opinion from coaches to see if you want us to move forward with this process.

The following is a list of possible restrictions that would have to happen in order to make a true double elimination work for volleyball:

1A-3A would have to rotate every third year to the facility in Richfield
All classifications playing at UVU would have to be willing to play in the Activity center in order to pick up the extra matches
There would be an increase in monies paid for officials because it would add a minimum of 20 and maximum of 25 extra matches to run the true double for each classification (we would have to find a solution that would work for UHSAA in regards to the extra money)
Teams that fall into the loser’s bracket the first day would have to play 3 matches.
It will take at least one year to get all the surveys completed and the new tournament in place if it passes through ADAC and UHSAA executive board

As a board we need to know is if you want us to move forward with this new proposal? Please send your opinion so we know if we should move forward with this possibility.

Also I sent out a previous email for the coach of Highland regarding his tournament for next year… in that email I didn’t realize that he included a link advertising a new high school website. We need you to know that this website is not supported by the Utah Volleyball Coaches Association and any information on it does not reflect this board or the members of the association. The Coaches association website is still located at www.uvca.org

We will keep it up to date on tournaments offered, matches needed, coaches email addresses, and up coming events and awards for the state.
